I've made a post, here to enable fans to find some of their friends on DW. It doesn't matter if you're staying firmly at LJ, working both sides, or moving mostly to DW; if you'd like to be added to the list, just comment on the post.

It doesn't matter if you're still fully committed to The Sentinel, or if you've branched out to other fandoms. If you know any of these people, and would like to be added to the list, just comment on the post.

Feel free to boost this announcement in your own journals/studios. This is just my small effort to help us keep track of our friends.

Helvetica has given me permission to announce her new website, which features
art for The Sentinel, Oz, and some original work. Helvetica's art includes
hand-drawn works, manipulations and a couple of vids, and is quite gorgeous.
Thanks are owed to Elaine for hosting her and helping with the set-up.

Enjoy. :-)

I may be inciting a debate here, but one of the things that I've found is that the fic in the fandom featuring Naomi tends to be very polarizing -- either she's evil or (in the slash fics especially) she's so happy Blair and Jim are together and, as a result, she doesn't seem real. My question, then, is: am I misremembering that she was only in two episodes? Or is some of the basis of her characterization strictly off of what Blair says about his childhood? If the latter is true, in what eps does Blair talk about his childhood?

I realize everyone has their opinion of Naomi; I'm not going to disagree with that. I'm just trying to come up with my own perception of her so I can write her more effectively, and I need the canon basis for that.

Thanks!

It's here at last – sign-ups are open for the first Sentinel Big Bang. There's something for everyone: you can sign up as an author and write wonderful fiction; you can sign up as an artist and illustrate one of those stories ("art" in this context is not limited to pictures - it can be vids, fanmixes, or anything else that's web-postable) or you can sign up as a cheerleader and help our authors reach their goal.

Author signups are here (signups are open until April 21):
http://community.livejournal.com/sentinelbigbang/2324.html

Artist signups are here (signups are open until September 13):
http://community.livejournal.com/sentinelbigbang/2060.html

Cheerleader signups are here (signups are open until April 21):
http://community.livejournal.com/sentinelbigbang/2031.html

Yes, you can sign up for more than one of these if you want to!

I've also posted a "Plot bunnies for adoption" post here:
http://community.livejournal.com/sentinelbigbang/2685.html

This is where I encourage everyone to share prompts and story ideas to help any authors who want to take part but need to kick-start the muse a little.

I have created a "mirror" community for Sentinel Big Bang on Dreamwidth: [community profile] sentinelbigbang This will serve as a backup in case LJ falls over on a key date or LJ's overlords decide to ban fandom again...you get the picture. You're welcome to join or follow the challenge on Dreamwidth, but all posts will redirect to the LJ community [livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang for commenting, because most of the participants primarily use LJ and I want to keep comments and discussion in one place. (If we have enough Dreamwidth people next year, I'll switch and make LJ the mirror.)

For anyone who missed the earlier announcements, here's the more detailed explanation of what the Big Bang challenge is all about:

These are art links that I've collected on Live Journal and I thought that they might fill in a gap here. They go various places over the internet, and feature art of the drawn and painted variety as opposed to manipulations.

Here's the link to A Tale of Fortuna, the story and art collaboration which Helvetica and I did for Moonridge 2009.

J/B slash, 20,300 words, fantasy AU, mature rated for possibly disturbing (but brief) violence and for sexual content. The link goes to the index page, and please note the warnings on some items relating to spoilers.

Over the next day or so I will archive my story on 852 and ASR3 etc, with links back to my website for the art which, as anyone familiar with Helvetica's work will know, is absolutely luscious. :-)

Forwarded from various lists and Live Journal communities:

It's with much sadness, but a lot of pride in what's been accomplished, that the Light My Fire Awards committee announce the closing of the awards.

For the last six years, the LMFA have been a way for the Sentinel fandom to highlight and showcase the best the fandom has to offer in the way of stories, art, vids, and resources. Hundreds -- thousands -- of fanworks have been nominated over the years and the fandom has voted to honor those it felt were worthy.

We're very proud that a newbie to the fandom is often pointed at our archives as an excellent place to find good fic. We're very proud of being part of a fandom that's still, years after the show ended, going strong.

The LMFA website will remain in place. If it becomes necessary to move it, we'll let everyone know the new URL.

The LMFA extends sincere and heartfelt congratulations to all current and past nominees and winners and its thanks to those who've served on the committee in the past, and those in the fandom who've nominated and voted and kept the LMFA alive.

Hi there!

This is a crosspost of something I did for TS talk on LJ. I don't see why I couldn't pop something in here too, to fill out a DW comm. :-)

At the Gmail TS chats, the regulars had the bright idea to resume episode summaries and discussion. This has happened before in this comm, with fans dutifully beginning at the beginning of the series, and then running out of enthusiasm or time before getting much past the end of season two. (Check out the calendar archives for this comm around 2006-2007 for previous discussions.) For that reason Snycock and I had the idea for people who want to take turns at writing ep discussions to just pick an episode. This means of course that the fan-favourite eps are going to go first, but is that such a bad thing?

It also means that I'm going to start with 'Warriors', Jen is following up with an ep next week, and then we have to figure out with what system to carry on if other people (who certainly don't have to be chat regulars) are interested in picking up an episode. It goes without saying, surely, that eps will be spoiled in these recaps/discussions.

I set up a DW account some time ago but then didn't really use it much. I wandered over this week and thought I'd take another look around and do some posting -- and found this comm. I thought I'd stop by and wave hi to everyone!

I just posted a long portion of a new story on my DW journal. It's a WIP but is going to be updated regularly and soon. (Hope story notices are okay in this comm.)

Title: "Sentinel for Sale"
Genre: slash J/B, J/other
Rating: NC-17, bdsm
Word count: @ 13,000
Summary: Jim's senses come online but he doesn't meet Blair. The senses cause Jim so much pain that he finds an unusual way to deal with them.

Apologies to all for being mostly moderator in absentia of late. I am very happy to see people using the community, and hope it continues to be a meeting place for TS fans at Dreamwidth. It's really nice to see you all here!

However! My life is, um, rather insane right now, and my online time is very limited at the moment, so I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in stepping forward as co-mod?

Please register your interest below. Comments are screened, and it may be a few days before I get back to you as I will be offline for the next week or so. But all offers of help will be gratefully received :-)

I contacted Blue Tattoo to ask if s/he was planning to transfer the site or the pictures. She advised me that she has no plans to move the pictures, and because she has no access to a computer at home doesn't even have her own copies of them any longer. She is perfectly happy for people to download her pictures onto their own hard-drives, and really appreciates that people still enjoy her work.

So, if you like Blue Tattoo's artwork, then you may well wish to save it to your pc. I've found that The Wayback Machine can be erratic about saving files, especially picture files so I'll be checking that I have everything that I want.

Remember, this is a Geocities site. If everyone stampedes at once to download, the site will go down.

I may be teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but:

when you download, it's a good idea to put the artist's name in the file name so that it's clear who created the work;

it is bad fannish etiquette to upload other people's artworks to another site without their permission, even with credit given.

http://www.geocities.com/bluetattoolove/mainpage.html

Blue Tattoo is still contactable at bluetattoolove at yahoo dot com, and I'm posting this announcement with her permission.

Please note Blue Tattoo's manips are totally slashy and some of them are quite explicit. Not safe for work

The LMFAs are still looking for nominations for the 2009 awards.

The current nominations can be viewed here:

http://lmfa.diagonalfiction.com/2009CurrentNoms.php

Check out what's been nominated lately and which categories could use a little fannish love. Enjoy the wide range of wonderful stories, art, and vids that The Sentinel fandom produces and add your own favorites. Don't forget that just because something has been nominated once, that doesn't guarantee it will make the ballot. So add your nomination when you find a worthy entry already there. Don't see it up there yet? Nominate it! You'll be glad you did (and so will the writers and artists).

It's easy to nominate a story and you can nominate as many as you want in each category, so if you've just read something you really loved, be sure and nominate it!

To do so, go here:
